IKS Equipment Reliability Software Suite Featured in Constellation Energy Generation Group’s Publication Nuclear In-Sites
The article announces the successful 2005 deployment of the Equipment Reliability Suite

Annapolis, Maryland – In the February 28th 2006 issue of Constellation Energy Generation Group’s (CGG) Publication Nuclear In-Sites, CGG announced the successful deployment of the IKS Equipment Reliability Software Suite.   Nuclear In-Sites is a CGG internal publication that features current events related to the CGG Nuclear Fleet which includes Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Plant, Ginna Nuclear Plant, and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station.

The article titled “Equipment Reliability-IQ (ER-IQ) Software Project Completes Deployment of All Modules Promised for 2005” raises employee awareness of the availability of the Equipment Reliability tool suite beyond everyday users of the applications.

The following is the article text as it originally appeared in the February 28th 2006 issue of Nuclear In-Sites:

Equipment Reliability - IQ (ER-IQ) Software Project Completes Deployment of All Modules Promised for 2005

Equipment reliability for Constellation Generation took a big step forward in 2005 with the deployment of nine ER-IQ software modules. According to Project Managers Dave Sonnett (CGG Corporate Engineering) and Mike Tafler (CGG IT Fleet Systems), those modules represent successful delivery of the 2005 commitment.

The modules provide the desktop tools for plant Engineering, Maintenance and Operations staff to effectively manage equipment reliability throughout the nuclear and fossil fleet. The tools aid workers in monitoring and reporting on equipment health and long-term station equipment plans. As well, the Work Management modules provide a means to manage and monitor plant maintenance activities. They include:

  • IQReview: supporting component classification, preventative maintenance template development and application
  • Program, system and component monitoring and health reporting
  • Just-in-Time Manager: viewing, ranking and challenging work in week windows as it comes due
  • Proactive Maintenance Manager:  capturing craft feedback and using it to improve preventative maintenance
  • Deferral Manager: supporting evaluation of preventative maintenance deferrals
  • Long-term Plan Issues:  capturing long-term asset management items to feed site “checkbooks”
  • Equipment Reliability Dashboard: gateway to all software modules with automated performance indicators

This software is a key enabler to improving plant equipment reliability processes and to begin leveraging the benefits of working together as a fleet. It is available to all CGG employees through MyConstellation, Intranets, MyGeneration, Applications, Fleet, Equipment Reliability Summary.

The project was completed on time and under budget, and the software has been well received at our sites. John Harritt, Preventative Maintenance Program Manager, Calvert Cliffs, presented the software to the Preventative Maintenance Program User’s Group meeting at INPO this January, receiving this feedback:

“Many were taken aback by how advanced Constellation’s processes and support applications are. I know from personal conversations with conference attendees that several realized how far behind the curve they are when they saw what John presented.”

The ER-IQ Project Team plans for 2006 include deploying more ER-IQ modules to our non-nuclear plants, issuing several user-defined enhancements and ensuring seamless integration of these modules with new software platforms, such as Maximo, planned for deployment this year.
