PPL rolls out PlantIQ & IQReview
On October 15, 2008 PlantIQ version 3.31 was rolled out at PPL, where the software is used to monitor component health at two coal-fired generating stations.

In PPL’s PlantIQ application, equipment information is automatically synchronized with the master equipment list in the maintenance management system, and active links are maintained to view up-to-date work order history with a mouse-click. Further, the application automatically pulls in diagnostic results from the vibration monitoring software, the lube oil Laboratory Information Management System, and the Transformer Oil Analysis database. Thermography results are also captured in PlantIQ and IR images are saved against the relevant components. This provides site component engineers with a complete overview of diagnostic results and work history to cost-effectively determine and track the overall health for each component.

The component health information is summarized at a system, facility and fleet level, and allows fleet and site management to get a complete and up-to-date single-page overview of component health with easy drill down capability into underperforming components.

The latest upgrade to PlantIQ includes improved component monitoring plan functionality. The Component Monitoring Plan captures the diagnostic tasks performed on each component with frequency and parameter information. The recent improvement of this functionality was aimed at supporting an automatic status determination of incoming test results based on a comparison to the pre-set parameters. At PPL, the oil analysis test results from the Laboratory Information Management System are automatically compared to 30 distinct component monitoring plan parameters. Through this comparison, the application is able to automatically and objectively set the status for each incoming diagnostic test.

PPL has also rolled out IQReview to document component classifications, preventive maintenance templates, and component-based maintenance strategies. The combination of PlantIQ and IQReview provides an integrated component reliability management tool for PPL’s centralized Equipment Reliability and Performance Center.
